Hi all,

WordPress recently updated to version 5.0. The new version replaced the (now Classic) page editor which allowed us to format the page as a single entity with a new concept  known as block editing. Essentially it breaks down every part of a page (ex:, title, paragraph, image, etc.) as a “block” which can be moved around easily.

It also allow us to save a block on a list to be re-used on ohter pages. The advantage is that if we change the contents of a block, all pages using that block will be automatically updated. A neat trick.

Unfortunately, it requires us to learn the new rules and techniques for block editing in WP.

=======  Here’s an email I sent out earlier on this subject:

My reply:

This is a new “feature” in WP version 5.0 which just came
out. It’ supposed to make it easier to make pages. The page
is now broken up into blocks. I can contain anything like
text, images, tables, etc. which you csn move around as you
like. You can also add it to a reusable block list and
insert it into other pages. When you change the contents of a
block, all pages with the same block gets automatically updated.

Here is a link to the WP announcement. go past the links to
the main info part.

Here’s the WP blurb page

WP can be set to the original Classic editor, however they
will support it only until 2021, so it might be best if we
can get used to using the new block technique.

=========================

There is a plug-in that will allow us to continue to use the Classic Editor format until 2021. I have/will update the websites with it ASAP. You will find the edit option for a page will now offer two choices – Block Editor and Classic Editor.

Under the classic editor option, on the right-hand side of the editing toolbar there are three vertical dots. Click on it will offer you the option to convert the page to block format.

Hopefully this info will help you adapt. LMK any questions.

Jim
